Condo Hurricane Protection

Protecting your condominium investment during strong storms and hurricanes is an important consideration. Generally speaking, any damage to a condo owners unit's interior is the responsibility of the owner and not the Condo Association. All windows, sliding glass doors and screens are the owners responsibility unless specifically stated in the condo documents and common property insurance coverages.

There are a number of options for condo owners to consider including special hurricane force wind resistant windows and doors; aluminum and plastic hurricane shutters; electric and manual roll-up and roll-down shutters; and of course the stardard plywood shutters.

Another important consideration is the hurricane precautions being taken by other condo unit owners in the same building or complex. While an owner may have fully protected the windows, doors and sliding glass doors for their unit thereby preventing water to enter the unit, the unit owner above or adjacent to you may not and therefore damage may still occur within your unit due to wind or water.
